Digium Phone Apps

The Digium Phone API lets you build custom apps for your phones using the popular programming language JavaScript. For more information about writing Digium Phone Apps, see the Digium Phone API Information Center.

After you have written your phone app, use this tool to deploy the app to your Digium Phones.

Create App

To upload an app for your Phones, click the Create App button.


This displays the Upload Digium Phone App screen from which you specify General Settings information, Extensions that Use the App, and Configuration Settings. After you have entered this information, clicking Save App uploads the packaged file containing the app and its associated files.

General Settings

• Packaged File. Click the text box to display the contents of your hard drive. Select the app file, which must be a zip file containing the source files that define the app.

• Always Running switch may be set to YES so the app will be started if it is not running. NO does not start the app.
• Include API Credentials switch may be set to YES so the extensions’ credentials are included. This is only necessary if you are using pbx.request and Switchvox Extend API methods.

Extensions that Use App

This option allows you to indicate from which Switchvox extensions are to have the app. Use the search box to filter the list of potential extensions. Highlight the extension to move it to the table. To remove an extension, highlight the entry in the table and click the red removal X.

Configuration Settings

If your app uses configuration settings, you can include them here. If you are deploying this app to multiple extensions and need to use extension data as a value, use the Insert an Extension Setting Variable button.

Use the Add Setting button to add more variables to the table, and use the Clear All Settings button to clear all of the settings. When finished, click Save App. This saves the app in Switchvox, and deploys the app to the phones as indicated..

Digium Phone Apps

All installed apps are listed on the Digium Phone Apps main screen in alphabetic order. To filter the list, you can enter a character in the Type to Search box. The list indicates the app Name, if the app is Always Running, and if it Has Idle Screen.

There are four Action buttons for each app also: Display of its Details, a Modify button that displays the same options used when creating its entry, a Download button to save the app package to your hard drive, and a Delete button to remove the app from the phones and Switchvox.
